Smores Candy Apple Slices (Printable Copy)

Crisp apple slices dipped in chocolate, sprinkled with graham crumbs and marshmallow drizzle.

# What You Need:

→ Apples

01 - 2 large crisp apples, such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp

→ Chocolate Coating

02 - 4 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
03 - 1 teaspoon coconut oil, optional for smoother melting

→ Toppings

04 - ½ cup graham cracker crumbs
05 - ½ cup mini marshmallows or marshmallow fluff

→ Optional

06 - 2 tablespoons chopped toasted nuts such as pecans or peanuts
07 - Flaky sea salt for garnish

# How to Make:

01 - Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
02 - Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Cut each apple into 4 thick slices approximately ½ inch thick, removing seeds and core from each slice. Pat slices dry with paper towels.
03 - Insert a popsicle stick or sturdy skewer into each apple slice if desired for easy dipping and handling.
04 - In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips with coconut oil if using in 30-second bursts, stirring until smooth. Alternatively, melt over a double boiler until fully combined.
05 - Dip each apple slice halfway into the melted chocolate, allowing excess to drip off before transferring to the prepared baking sheet.
06 - Immediately sprinkle or press graham cracker crumbs onto the chocolate-coated side of each slice while chocolate remains wet.
07 - If using marshmallow fluff, microwave for 10 to 15 seconds to soften, then drizzle over the chocolate side of each slice using a spoon or piping bag. If using mini marshmallows, press a few onto the chocolate while still wet.
08 - Add optional chopped nuts or a pinch of flaky sea salt to each slice as desired.
09 - Refrigerate for 10 minutes to set the chocolate completely before serving.

# Expert Advice:

01 -
  • No baking required, which means you can pull these together while someone's telling a story instead of being trapped in the kitchen.
  • The tartness of the apple cuts through the sweetness in a way that feels refreshing, like you're actually eating something with fruit in it.
  • Everyone watches you make the first one, then immediately asks if they can try one, which is always a good sign.
02 -
  • Keep the chocolate warm while you work—if it hardens, it won't coat the apples evenly or accept the toppings, and you'll end up with a sad, lumpy situation that I've definitely experienced.
  • Apples release juice quickly once they're cut, especially if they sit around, so assemble these as close to serving time as possible; they're meant to be eaten fresh.
03 -
  • If your melted chocolate is too thick and won't coat smoothly, add the tiniest bit more coconut oil and stir until it flows like silk—one teaspoon more makes all the difference.
  • Pat your apple slices completely dry before dipping; any water will cause the chocolate to break and look spotty instead of glossy and beautiful.
